A dear friend gave me this lovely flower recently. It hadn't bloomed yet and looked a bit like a pair of naked sticks. It was in a pretty little pot. I put it out on my back porch where it got partial sun. A couple days later, I delighted to see how it bloomed. I photographed it against the black background of my screen door.
According to wikipedia...Amaryllis is a bulbous plant, with each bulb being 5 10 cm (2.0 3.9 inches) in diameter. It has several strap-shaped, green leaves, arranged in two rows.
Each bulb produces one or two leafless stems 30 60 cm tall. Each of these bears a cluster of two to twelve funnel-shaped flowers at their tops. Each flower is 6 10 cm diameter with six tepal. Three tepals are on the outside and three are inside. Each has a similar appearance to each other. The usual color is white eith crimson veins, but pink or purple also occur naturally.
