This piece, burned on a cherry plank, is the first of a series of angelic rodeo images that I would like to do. The substrate is a piece of wood that has both sapwood (the lighter stripes on the outer edges) and heartwood (the reddish strip in the middle). When the burning was complete, the horse and rider just sort of got lost in the clouds, which I knew would happen. That is why I added the white. It was a toss-up whether I would lighten the clouds or the horse. Either way would have probably worked, but, I'm glad I did the actual subject of the picture.

I can't stand bios that start out with "I've been drawing since I could hold a crayon". I believe profound, esoteric, ephemeral artist statements are mostly pretentious hogwash elucidated by folks who don't draw well in the first place. I grew up in Wyoming.
