This would be a spectacular entrance if it were at my house, but at the Palacio Real de Madrid it appears to be the back stairs! The grand entrance is a wide plaza on the other side of this building. These stairs lie on the north side of the palace, on the side where there are formal gardens so perhaps they were used for access to the gardens. The Palacio Real de Madrid is the official residence of the Spanish Royal Family at the city of Madrid, but is only used for state ceremonies.
