Love the painting and the rich colorful blues, reds, greens, & yellows! A nice addition to our cowboy/southwest decor vibe.

Beautifully expressed rendition of the Shrine of the Bab. The frame and matting showcase the print. We have it prominently on our living room wall with other sacred pictures.

I think the frame and mat work very well with this, it is really impressive in person. Grouped with a small Grant Wood with high quality lighting it sets the mood for a Georgia farmhouse.
Artist's Description
I've driven past this site many times on the way into Snowdonia, before I stopped here and wandered around. Again, this is another site where, looking around, one is a little overwhelmed by the visual possibilities. Every direction you look, there is a potentially decent painting waiting for you. Scary.
For all that we owe a debt to the Romantics for changing our view of the wilder parts of nature, I still feel that Betws, in particular, has suffered by too many paintings which have over-sentimentalised it. I find the outlook of the Romantics (the painters and the poets) to be a little too grandiose for my taste. Too much overt emoting. I prefer the stance of the 19th century Liverpool school of painters, who approached painting in a more understated way.
I think it's always best to paint what you see, and let the emotion look after itself. Restraint rather than emotional carte blanche.
About Harry Robertson
I was born into a British working-class family in Scarborough, Yorkshire. I have an elder brother and sister. We were brought up in what is now called a single-parent family. Our mother was a waitress. When she died, we kids went off in different directions. Not choice, it just happened. After something of a chaotic period I ended up with foster parents living in Darwen, Lancashire, aged eleven. They took me with them when they moved to Manchester. At the age of twelve I was offered an interview for a place in the Manchester High School of Art, a specialist junior art school in the normal secondary system. A place had become available because a pupil had climbed into the building next door for a bet with his mates. It was Strangeways...

Thanks for your comment Colin. You may like to know that this painting will be on show during the whole of June at the Royal Cambrian Academy in Conwy. I have an exhibition there with 30 or so pictures. Hopefully you'll find time to drop in. Cheers, Harry.

The rivers and waterfalls in the Betws-y-Coed area are stunning. I know about them as I live here. This picture does illustrate very accurately what the real life fall is like. < ahref="http://betws-y-coed.net">Betws-y-Coed

Thank you very much for your comment. I've been looking at your work, and I am very flattered that you like one of my landscape paintings! I especially love your oil sketches. Some almost drift into enticing abstracts. Very, very nice use of color and composition!

Excellent job. We are up that way quite often (we have friends in Coedpoeth), so I may go up and have a look when we are there again next weekend.
