Artist's Description
This Blue Jeans frog, found in tropical humid forests, is one of the most prominent frogs in Costa Rica. Its brilliant red head and back, and blue-to-purple legs comprise a coloration distinct from all other frogs. It appears to be wearing blue jeans, hence its common name. :) The Blue Jeans frog is not known to be lethal to man, but its skin secretions may have unpredictable effects. It feeds on ants, mosquitoes and termites, and is from the food where it gets the poison. Its strong coloration means danger and the animals in the forest will recogonize such strong coloration and stay away. Adults of this small species are generally 3/4 to 1 in. (or 19 to 24 mm) long and can live 5 or 6 years. This tiny frog was spotted hopping around on the forest floor while on a nature walk through the rainforest in Tortuguero, Costa Rica.

While I initially did nature and especially macro (close-up) photography, my interests have expanded into photography from travels, scenes of local interest, historic buildings, and basically any interesting image I happen to come across! Since I have taken up photography, my enjoyment of the...
