This painting is part of my "Italy On My Mind" series.
The Tuscan hills are always coming to my mind: they are some of Italy's most brethtaking panoramas. The tree depicted in this painting is on top of a hill in Buonconvento, a small village near Siena in Tuscany.
This piece has rich layers of color and texture. I can just smell that country air in a hot summer afternoon.

I used to translate all the Beatles songs when they came out, and Jethro Tull, and Jimi Hendrix, and so on. And that's my story on my English [hehehehe] I do like to use those smily faces a lot! I think they are useful for not "sounding" too serious :-)

I have no problem in talking about me if someone listens :-). I came to USA about 20 years ago after marrying a US Navy guy met in Italy. Actually, 25, my daughter is 25. Thanks for the compliment on my English: I don't feel I write that well, in fact I blog to exercise with the language. I do like languages, I studied English, Spanish and Latin while I was in school in Italy.

Bruce, wow, your analysis of the composition blew me away. When I come across that type of instruction in the art books, I always skip it :-) , but I like to read it when is related to my work hahahaaha. The piece of wood was smooth, poplar specifically. I used gesso and a palette knife to create the texture; I also think it wouldn't have "worked" if it were smooth. I will definitely post more from this series, we'll see how i did with the composition...;-)

I like the pure simplicity of this. I think the diagonal road makes the "picture" of the tree successful. The texture of the wood (or is that your use of oil paint), actually of the whole painting, seems to add a heat sensation and the aroma you speak ot. (Whoops! The Space Cops got me!) (Continued!!)

(Continued) The "simplicity" I mentioned earlier is achieved also, besides the symmetyof the tree itself and its central placemeht, by using only three colors (I think I'm supposed to say "limited pallette), and the relationship I see of the tree to the grassy hill. I am amazed that it is so small! What power for such limited size! (Continued)

(Condluded, I hope!) As I mentioned in my first comment on your work I wish you would post more. You mention the TUSCANY SERIES. Maybe you could share more. I had the great pleasure of spending a couple weeks in Tuscany at different times about 4-5 years ago, so I know about the beauty you speak of, and I deeply agree. Your English writing is so good! Why did you come here? Or maybe that's a personal question. I did not intend to be.
