Joyce, thank you very much...

wow, David! this is so good...your postwork on this is superb..as is the pov...and, I am ex-USAF..and love images like this! fav/vote

David Bearden replied:

Tyler, thank you very much...Robert Frederick and I are also ex-USAF so we almost have a flight...

Robert, I was a crew chief on a C-130, the 1960's equivalent of the C-47 so I understand your sentimentality...

Now I have to go look that one up - The framing of an aircraft photo can be difficult and I'm not sure the "rule of thirds" ever applies to any particular model. This is perfectly done imho. Its a shot I wish I'd created...can't say enough about this and the C-47 is one of my sentimental favorites.

Robert, thanks, decided to use Painterly to exaggerate the colors, this was painted in the D-Day stripping...

This is a great image, David. The HDR makes it look like the pictures on the model plane boxes at the Ben Franklin 5 & 10 (predecessor to dollar stores).

Artist's Description

The C-47 was vital to the success of many Allied campaigns, in particular those at Guadalcanal and in the jungles of New Guinea and Burma where the C-47 (and its naval version, the R4D) made it possible for Allied troops to counter the mobility of the light-traveling Japanese army. Additionally, C-47s were used to airlift supplies to the embattled American forces during the Battle of Bastogne. But possibly its most influential role in military aviation was flying "The Hump" from India into China. The expertise gained flying "The Hump" would later be used in the Berlin Airlift, in which the C-47 would play a major role, until being replaced by the C-54.
