My first survey camp in the wilderness of Labrador, Canada. The place was called Flat Lake, in the south-west corner of the territory, not far from the Quebec border. Our living tent was on the end of a small peninsula which jutted out into the lake and gave us the benefit of night breezes which helped keep the mosquitoes at bay. On another point of land to the left of the photo, a family of wolves sometimes came down to drink in the late evening and we spent a lot of time watching each other, but during the day we never saw them at all, even when we were climbing up the small mountain to where we had installed our survey station.
The photo was taken in June 1953 with a Voightlander 35 mm. camera using Kodachrome ASA 10 film. Scanned in 2004 using a Canon 4000dpi scanner.

Hello to everyone. I'm Canadian, born and raised in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia,with a long career in radar,communications,and computers.Retired at 74. Scion of a Grand Banks schooner captain and a merchant mariner,I love the ocean. I started using 35mm.color in 1950.Favourite camera was an Exakta Varex.Switched to digital around 1998. My favourite subjects are sailing ships, ocean liners, the sea, forest,mountains..maybe I should just say "nature".
