Artist's Description

While waiting for a bus in the small city of Lagos, Portugal, after a lovely rain, I saw these wonderful canna lilies. When I saw those long, variegated leaves of canna lilies, after a rain, I could not help but be fascinated! The leaves of the canna lily are mostly green but may be brownish, maroon, and variegated. It is not a true lily, but a flowering, garden, and agricultural plant with large foliage. The plant begins as a rhizome with underground stems. Their main attraction is for agriculture because it has the largest starch particles of all plant life. This starch is used to make cellophane noodles in China, Vietnam, and in the Andes mountain areas.
