This painting makes me happy!! The colors are really fun and, like his other pieces I own, expertly painted. I want to live in this cottage and walk into the ocean. Ordered it on canvas - well executed. Thank you for the smiles!

Artist's Description
An oil painting copyright 1998 Joann M. Renner. Shows the Union forces capturing a Confederate flag after the failed attack by General Pickett on July 3, 1863. This is near the Copse of Trees which was the Highwater Mark of the Confederacy. Here rebel troops faced double canister shot at point blank range from Union cannons. The Union troops are shouting "Fredericksburg! Fredericksburg!" as the rebels retreat. The smoke is from a hay bale set afire by Union troops as a diversion and slowing tactic. I used several photos I took at the Gettysburg reenactments. All equipment is historically accurate. I could have made it as grisly a scene as it actually was but I did not feel it was necessary. Done in honor of all who served both sides that day. Licensing and commissions are available.

Later specializing in oil painting and art history, I...
