A beautiful scarlet-red cardinal posing for me and hoping he'll be paid in full for his modeling services with some black oiler sunflower seeds (which he did get!).
The Cornel Lab of Ornithology has this to say about the cardinal:
The male Northern Cardinal is perhaps responsible for getting more people to open up a field guide than any other bird.
