Wow! Wow! Wow!

PPS This will make sense only after reading the long stream of Comments below. I just went by and checked Ms Galasis Gallery and the SAFE FILTER is again on LANDSCAPE 2 #2. Click it and it will tell you how to (temporarily) remove, from your own screen, at least. I looked around the site again and noticed numerous flowers to which I would sooner apply the wretched device, even more than Jerrold's beautiful lily!

PS. And this is going to take several rations of COMMENT folks. (Jerrold, too bad you don’t get paid for number of comments!) I wrote a COMMENT on Jerrold’s fine and especially strong painting, CATALIA ORCHID, earlier today. Since, then I have been mulling those thoughts and feel I should express my detailed and somewhat revised conclusions here. Yesterday I marveled disagreeably and nittily pickily about our FAA SAFE-FILTER (Cont.)

Bruce Combs

Bruce Combs

(good euphemism for something that prevents viewing a work of art – rather than something that, for instance, prevents a child SAFE from running into the street, an ocean wave, etc. thus protecting the child! Or perhaps something that protects paintings or even their images, as here, or even their creators from receiving harm from some maniac). (Cont)

Bruce Combs

Cont.)But the Safe-Filter is still there today! Hiding Jerrold’s wonderful painting, LUST, which albeit fine, accurate, and all that and more, I could find nothing in it that I could imagine deserved hiding (Of course, I never will!) from either the most tender of innocent minds nor from those with the most pornographic imaginations (latter is Supreme Court paraphrase, I think). (Cont.)

(cont.) But most applicable of all here, I suppose, is the question on our Application for displaying works of art: WOULD YOU WANT YOUR MOM TO VIEW THIS IMAGE AT WORK WITHY HER CO-WORKERS? And there also are some examples explaining that and why. BUT, it still seems to me to be a personal question pertaining to my mother and her co-workers, and their relationships, (Cont.)

Bruce Combs

Bruce Combs

(Cont) and even my relationship to my own mother ( Would I want to thrust into her face something obscene, pornographic, or politically treacherous, or incorrect, etc.?) rather than to the content of my pride and joy work of art. Yet now I see most blatantly obvious in this painting, CATALYA ORCHID, from which we viewers receive no protection--nor do our mothers either – or their co-workers-- (cont.)

Bruce Combs

Bruce Combs

(Cont.)--the extra and needlessly long, inviting yellow petal down the middle, sensuous as Mick Jaeger’s tongue, surrounded in its obviously provocative position by the petals curving on each side and accompanied by the major amount of green shown in the painting; obviously, all are reaching to engulf! Better get the SAFE FILTER on it right away before it incites some dastardly thoughts, even if not actions! (Cont.)

(Cont.) Or, indeed, some major chain store might order hundreds of copies of it to display in the magazine rack that people glace at (mostly only furtively) while waiting in the check-out line. Now, if you are wondering, the other, and perhaps most important thing is this! I urge you to see LANDSCAPE 2, a very lovely garden-type painting by Christina Rahm Galanis. (cont)

(Cont.) When I came to view her paintings this morning it was obscured by the Safe-Filter. We fellow and sister artists can remove a Safe-Filter in a couple of steps. Now, if you are wondering, the other, and perhaps most important thing is this! I urge you to see LANDSCAPE 2, a very lovely garden-type painting by Christina Rahm Galanis. But what about the Collectors -- the viewers most important to us? (cont.)

Bruce Combs

Bruce Combs

(Cont) Arent they going to wonder, and reasonably suppose that here amongst Ms Galanis’ lovely display of flowers and fruit lurks something that should be hidden? See for yourself at this link: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/landscape-2-christina-rahm-galanis.html?safefilter=off

Bruce Combs

Bruce Combs

(Cont) You can note the reference to Safe-Filter in this link. Perhaps it stays off after an artist has turned it off as I did (frankly, hoping to find something lurid!). But you should go and look at these wonderful paintings anyway (Ms. Galanis, I’ll get in touch soon about the money for this!). (cont)

So, I just wanted to point out to you the apparent inconsistency of the very infrequently seen but pernicious and misleading SAFE FILTER, both in name and inconsistent application. Further, its mere presence is potentially illicit-thought-provoking! I say APPARENT inconsistency to warn anyone who might display symptoms of paranoia at being undeservingly “filtered,” let alone anger that could be dangerous to any of us and our works of art and also our up-until-now friendships!

Well, I agree with SONGS OF THUNDER's comment which adds to how it so convincingly and intimidatingly looks me determinedly and unflinchingly right in the eye. I say to all, if you've never been scared by a flower, try staring this one down.

The soft colors of this piece are very pleasing. Beautiful work, as always.

About Jerrold Carton

Jerrold Carton

Jerrold Carton Fine Art Thank you for coming by to view Jerrold's work. Jerrold Carton was a masterful artist who lived from May 2, 1947-April 14, 2009. He passed away unexpectedly and long before his time. The world lost years of amazing work he could have completed had he not died. We are left, however, with an amazing body of work. He received his B.F.A. degree in painting in 1970 from the Minneapolis College Of Art and Design. During my time there he was privileged to study with such notables as Roberto Matta , Christo, Kurt Sonderborg , Wayne Thibaud and George Segal. He began painting at age fourteen with many paintings in collections across the country and in foreign nations as well; additionally, he worked in a variety of other...
