I just finished Caw of the Wild, and am struggling for words. It was probably the best kind of natural history writing: very intimate, but with the intimacy focused on the subject, not the author; full of questions, but not full of bogus conjecture. You did something I've not been able to do: to befriend these little people Our crows eat nuts from the front door mat, but flee whenever I come near. West Nile swept through our area outside of Washington DC about a decade ago, and we lost all our crows and jays. They've all rebounded, it seems, though I think there were some cases a few years ago. This year we had 6 baby jays -- three different clutches -- sharing the front door nuts, and a contented family of 4 crows enjoying our platform feeders. What happened to - David Stang

Thank you so much for your kind comments, they mean more to me than you can ever know. Best, Barb

Hi Barb- I just read your work Caw of the Wild, finished it in less than a week (I couldn't put it down!). I liked crows before reading your book, but I gained a new level of respect and understanding of them after reading your book. Thank you so much for sharing your heartfelt experiences and shedding light onto one of the most misunderstood creatures!

Yes. I had forgotten that we had it...My husband has it dog eared at A Murder of Crows chapter. Didn't realize that was you at first...Nice work all around.

Crows are some of our favorite people. We've feed a family of crows for more than a decade. I'm not sure what a digital charcoal is but I like it.

Barb Kirpluk replied:

Thank you, crows are some of my favorite people also! I work on a computer screen with a tablet and pen, my charcoal is digital so to speak. You might enjoy my book, "Caw of the Wild." Thanks for the compliment. Barb

very nice...

About Barb Kirpluk

Barb Kirpluk

I am a nature artist focusing primarily on wildlife and animals. I love watching them, and learning about how they live. I try to imagine what they think about. I work in both traditional materials of oil, pastel, acrylic, and the like. As well I am inspired by newer tools of digital painting. All of my digital works are hand painted one stroke at a time using a stylus pen and a Wacom tablet. My life long love of cameras, and desire to capture my own reference materials, has also led to the addition of photography to my portfolio of works. This pursuit finds me traveling and spending time quietly in nature. It takes a fair bit of patience to photograph animals in natural settings, and for me is a good way to slow the pace of our...
