“Chevelle SS 396”

---My third original artwork in a series celebrating iconic car badges---and a personal favorite of mine ((-:

At the impressionable age of 14, I remember when my older brother’s High School buddy bought a brand new Chevy Chevelle Super Sport 396
The color was bright blue with a shiny black vinyl top---looking Bold, Beautiful and Fast!! ---Even when standing still with its long engine hood, forward-lunging front fenders and dramatically sloped fastback.

I also remember how big and important my brother’s small-framed friend looked, sitting behind the steering wheel of this mid-sized American Muscle Car.

So just how did the Chevelle get its name, you ask? Popular belief is, Chevrolet was going to name the brand “Gazelle”---Considering they already owned the “Impala” brand. Combining Chevy and Gazelle, Chevelle was born.

Doug Kreuger, Landscape Artist Member of Oil Painters of America Doug was born in, Aberdeen, South Dakota, and grew up in Hazel Crest, Illinois. From early childhood, Doug demonstrated a strong interest in drawing, painting, and building things.
