Artist's Description
This pencil drawing celebrates some of Dawn's childhood friends who delighted her and taught her so much while she was growing up at her family's log cabin in the foothills of Wyoming's Snowy Range. Included are her family's horse Rever'n' (Wyomingites' way of saying "Reverend"), the orphan baby kestrel (playing with Dawn's braid) and pine squirrel (climbing onto Dawn's shoulder) the family rescued and raised, the domestic rabbit Fiddlesticks who loved to dance, two porcupines, two ground squirrels called TwiddleDee and TwiddleDum, and Dawn's teddy bear and toy boa constrictor. Not to leave out another kind of friend, a good book.
About Dawn Senior-Trask
I have been an artist since I was knee high to a short-horned locust. My dad, Willoughby Senior (FAA) was a professional artist and writer and I have stepped in his shoes since I was born, though he drew horses better than I did when I was a kid. My family lived in a hand-hewn log cabin we built ourselves in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and had no water or electricity. I love my life with my husband and family in Wyoming among the horses, gophers, deer, antelope, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and the wild landscape. My work is driven by the land, animals, wild plants and birds I have come to know so well. Hummingbirds still try to get nectar from my upturned fingers. My artwork consists of all these things and more...
