This started out as a photograph on a Manhattan street. It is a locked box attached to a closed street bodega, lat e at night. The box had a US flag decal affixed beneath the dangling padlock. The symbolism of this random "found art" sparked a a vague symbolic idea -- until I began to paint it. It then solidified into a representation of the juxtaposition between Home Land Security Regulations and our civil rights as Americans... with a subtle nod toward immigration restrictions. Take my explanation and run with it. This is one of those pieces that can mean many things to many people. Hope I've done it some "justice" -- "Justice" in America may be the main point. OR not. Up to you, viewer!
