Thank you Adel!

Wonderful shot Chris….thank you for your comment on my work…regards.

Awesome catch, Chris!

Chris Kusik replied:

Thank you Wendy. I light painted the tree while the exposure was being made. Lucky for me the light was about the same color temperature as the setting sun.

Thanks Roy. I'm hoping for it. I've been waiting 16 years for another chance. There's supposed to be another bright comet coming our way. Maybe I'll try medium format this time! I think Hale-Bopp has a 2000 year orbit and will be back around in 3096.

Beautiful shot - I wonder if the earth - or we in another incarnation will see this again.

Thanks Daniel. We may have a chance of getting another bright comet at the end of this year!

Cool V

Thanks for the feature Frank!

Thank you Linda!

What a cool image! I remember watching that comet.

Artist's Description

Comet Hale-Bopp became visible in the summer of 1996. It faded in the winter and came into view in early 1997 and became brightest on April 1st. It will return in 4385. The idea for this photograph was drawn from previous experiments of "light painting" of the foreground to create a balance of a recordable exposure of the night sky and the surrounding landscape. The tree exuded a lot of character and added balance to the composition. Comet Hale-Bopp (formally designated C/1995 O1) was perhaps the most widely observed comet of the 20th century and one of the brightest seen for many decades. It was visible to the naked eye for a record 18 months, twice as long as the previous record holder, the Great Comet of 1811. Hale-Bopp was discovered on July 23, 1995, at a great distance from the Sun, raising expectations that the comet would brighten considerably by the time it passed close to Earth. Although predicting the brightness of comets with any degree of accuracy is very difficult, Hale...

He studied the work of Ansel Adams and his “zone” system as well as the works of the his colleges in the “f 64 club” of art photographers. It became apparent that researching the accomplishments of painters would also be beneficial. Chris began to establish his own style, a fusion of art and...
