The port city of Hamburg, in northern Germany, has many, very varied styles of architecture. The spires of several landmark churches dominate the skyline and skyscrapers are few and far between. The ever present canals wind around the streets, pass under countless bridges carrying commuter filled trains, and skirt the buildings, giving the city the unique feel of a floating, modern metropolis. Pictured here are two very different architectural gems, on the left, the baroque St.Michael's Church. Its 132 m high steeple is a landmark easily seen from all over Hamburg and if you ever lose your way, it will guide you home. On the right, in complete contrast, is one facade of the enormous, contemporary 'Gruner & Jahr' building, which, when viewed from afar resembles a ship.

I'm a travel photographer and photo artist. I like to explore every nook and cranny of anywhere I visit and I'm always looking out for something unusual or unique, weird and wonderful, interesting and intriguing. For me, half the challenge is in the initial taking of the photo, the looking for something that catches my attention, getting that perfect composition, but the other half is in the processing, the tweaking and twisting and the addition of a little imagination to see how much detail I can bring to the surface and hopefully let the viewer see the same as I did when I took the shot. My images have been shot here, there and everywhere, mainly in the historic cities of Europe and with the occasional one taken in my own surroundings...
