Crossover Island with its delightful little lighthouse (built in 1848) gets its name from its proximity to the point where ships cross from the Canadian to the American channel of the St. Lawrence River.
Today, the light has been replaced by a nearby skeleton light, and is a private residence since 1960. The historic and famous lighthouse, three bedroom keeper's house, an icehouse, a boathouse and other buildings have all been carefully preserved by the owners.

Crossover Island and its 1882 lighthouse are located (barely) on the United States side of the St. Lawrence River, near Chippewa Bay, just northeast of the famed Alexandria Bay area in the 1,000 Islands region. That puts it roughly halfway between Cape Vincent (by Lake Ontario) and Ogdensburg, NY.
