My husband and I had a lovely trip to Paris and southern France last July. While on a bus trip we were able to take a photo of this cafe that we share a name with. Our photo was a little blurry and not good for enlargement. Your wonderful photo now hangs in our own kitchen as a nice reminder of that trip. It is beautiful and of very good quality. We love it. Artist's Description
Daffodils growing in my back yard captured my eye and became the subject for this painting. This painting is simply titled Daffodils. It's one of my favorites. It took nearly 8 weeks from start to finish. It's based on another couple of cut and past photos of flowers in our yard. It is acrylic paint on a 24' x 32" stretched canvas. Each petal of each flower is a series of washes of thinly pigmented glaze medium over a base of more heavily shaded paint on the raw canvas forming the flower's structure. It gives each bloom a more realistic depth and translucence.
About Charles Harris
Born and raised in the USA in Michigan, over 60 years ago, I began painting by numbers at 8 yrs old progressed to freehand work in oils by the age of ten. I've been painting for most of my life and the only formal training in the arts was an Intro course in Art Methods and Media at University of Michigan- Flint. I work in both acrylic and oil color; usually on canvas but have been known to use other things as well. I have dabbled in watercolor and mixed media, also. It may seem odd in this technologically fortified age to prefer to paint by hand on canvas that which I see rather than to photograph it and then edit the image to taste with computer software but I find that I can select those details I wish to highlight and draw...
