20-year-old Ltn. Werner Voss running up his prototype Fokker F.I triplane (103/17). Voss, a 48-victory ace and commander of Jasta 10, perished in this machine on 23 September 1917 after a protracted solo dogfight with seven experienced British pilots of 56 Squadron. Before he fell, Voss managed to damage all of the enemy SE.5s with well-placed bursts!
Famous British ace James McCudden participated in the fight, and later wrote, "His flying was wonderful, his courage magnificent ... he is the bravest German airman whom it has been my privilege to see fight."
Wade Meyers spent his early years at Fort Bragg, North Carolina before his family moved to Bossier City, La. when he was ten years old. Fulfilling a dream, Wade soloed a Cessna 150 at age 17 and went on to earn his Commercial and Flight Instructor pilot certificates. After high school, he earned a B.A. in History from Louisiana State University in Shreveport while serving in the US Air Force Reserve at Barksdale Air Force Base. With marriage came a move to the beautiful Birmingham, Alabama area. Diving in head first, Wade quit his job at an aviation museum in 2003 and began to work full-time as an aviation artist.
