As I remember listening to a debrief, it was his seventh missile that got the MiG!

Pete Wenman replied:

Hi Thomas - yes indeed the 7th missile - four AIM-7 Sparrows and two AIM-9 Siderwinders all missed. Just as shown here with the 7th missile making the hit, and the last missile still on the rack. I've a copy of an audio recording of the engagement that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up every time I listen to it. regards P

Very pleased with the image, color, printing . My selection of printing onto wood is great for this image. There are a few mildly dark lines which are natural to wood. They show through the image and contribute to the image--glad that none of these was over the face of the horse rider.

Perfect! I wish that you'd included a translation of the two inscriptions in some ancient language that are above the shoulders of St John Coltrane. It would cost your company virtually nothing to supply this with the picture.

Pete Wenman

Pete is an award winning artist, based in the UK who has always loved aircraft, but only started painting them in the last few years. The site of Bleriots landing following his historic cross channel flight is only 20 miles away, while he can look out from his studio towards a Bf109 crash site, and Reculver Bay where the Dambusters of 617 Squadron practiced with the bouncing bomb Since an early age Pete loved to paint, but in his teenage years he concentrated on the construction and painting of military figures, and scale model aircraft. Over time he went on to win numerous awards in both these fields. However in...
