This is an outstanding piece of work. The aura of Powell River with its resident fishing boats is portrayed beautifully. The vessel “Shirley” is very thought provoking to me personally.

The name "dog-tree" entered the English vocabulary by 1548, and had been further transformed to "dogwood" by 1614. Once the name dogwood was affixed to this kind of tree, it soon acquired a secondary name as the Hound's Tree, while the fruits came to be known as dogberries or houndberries.

The various species of dogwood are native throughout much of temperate and boreal Eurasia and North America, with China and Japan and the southeastern United States particularly rich in native species.

The actual Dogwood blossom that produce dogwood seeds are a crown of greenish-yellow florets in the center of the bracts. Just like some flowers, the Dogwood blossom may need bees and other insects for pollination. Dogwood blossom bract color can range from white to pink to an almost red color.
