This vintage door knob, with tinges or yellow, white and brown paint peeling on the old wall, the wood grain showing through, provides great artistic appeal to this antiquated scene. Many antiquated things unexpectedly offer their own beauty.

Origin of the door knob dates back to the 18th Century. Since then, both levers or handle were put in use. The round knob is turned. The lever or handle is pushed downward, which was easier than upward. Both the action of the round knob and the lever pull a release mechanism that frees a bolt from the wall, allowing the door to swing freely.

Door knobs, latches and levers have undergone many changes. They were a way to add a decorative touch to something standard and mundane. Today styles are available for every decorating sense.
