Artist's Description
Dopamine transporter inhibition. Computer illustration showing a dopamine transporter (coloured ribbons, centre) in a cell membrane (beige) being inhibited by a molecule of the antidepressant drug nortriptyline (yellow). Nortriptyline is a dopamine reuptake inhibitor (DRI). It works by blocking the action of the dopamine transporter, leading to increased extracellular concentrations of dopamine, a neurotransmitter known to play an important role in mood.
