Artist's Description

This Basket was woven by hand, using Basket Reed, which is the core of Rattan, and Raffia, which is a Palm Leaf. When I weave such a fine intricate patterned Basket, I have to split the weaving materials down to a fine thread, and twist them for strength. I use 3 colors at a time on this pattern, holding the two not being used for the current pattern, along with the reed, switching as needed to change the colors. This Basket took over a year to complete, and measures 9" in diameter. The two rows of Men and Women are holding hands all the way around the Basket. This pattern was taken from the Friendship Dance, at the PowWows I use to attend. The Pueblo housing was a pattern given to me by my Mother. The Star center, and star points, represent the eight directions of the earth. This Basket has been sold, but if interested in one of this pattern, please feel free to contact me.
