Dwarfism display at World's Fair. These are the workers and inhabitants at the Midget Village at the Chicago World's Fair, 1933. This international exposition ('A Century of Progress') took place in Chicago, USA, from 27 May to 1 November 1933. The midget village was advertised as being inhabited by 'sixty Lilliputians'. It later expanded fourfold and was renamed 'Midget City'. Historically, most people called midgets were born with the medical condition proportionate dwarfism. There are numerous causes of dwarfism. This photograph was part of the research on such exhibits carried out by the Eugenics Record Office, Cold Spring Harbor, New York, USA.
