The colorful Eastern Bluebird (Sialia sialis) is often found outdoors in open woods and fields, frequently perched on branches, wire or fence posts. They drop to the ground to feed on grubs and insects before returning to their perch. They are known to sing while in flight. The Eastern Bluebird is fairly small but rounded, measuring about 7 inches in length and about 1.1 ounces in weight.

This beautiful male Eastern Bluebird perched on a branch was photographed in Litchfield County, Connecticut, on 12-8-2015, in a wooded area that was adjacent to a creek and to grassy fields. I used a Nikon D810 camera body and a Nikon 500mm f/4.0E FL ED VR lens to capture this image. Settings: 1/200 sec, f/5.6, ISO 1000.
