Description
About the ...enlightenment.. Series:by Rooma Mehra
_________________________________________________________________________
A journey into my inner world..
When the world was dark ..
I had just lost my Mom..
the sky was torn from over my head..
I prayed to God ..
I prayed on paper, on glass, in colour ..
the only way I know how
and emerged a stronger person
after I had prayed,
but discovered I had painted my mother's face..
and it was a happy face.
...enlightenment...
(dedicated to the memory of her mother)
from the ashes
of darkness
of pain
of death
quivering, hesitant
rises
the shadow-flame
of truth
blurred by tears
only slowly
very slowly
it metamorphoses
into a brilliant
yet soothing
light
of a whole truth
that illuminates
the tunnels
of the mindscape
i watch
..mesmerized..
the rainbow balsam
healing touch
on my wounds
i listen
..astonished..
to the truth
that sings
the inevitability
of the encounter
with the loving,
with the peaceful,
with the gentle
with God..

Some very beautiful work .... I lived in Mumbai twenty years ago .... was the art critic for the Indian Express ... Bombay Magazine, which I think is no longer being published. As Nikki Ty-Tomkins Seth. I am very excited now by the recognition .... long overdue .... being given to our fine artists. Tyeb Mehta was a close friend ... and his obit in Newsweek brought tears to my eyes. I am impressed by what I see of your work here .... very few artists can hande abstraction ... most 'fake' it. This painting rings very true for me.
