This image depicts a Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightening II Joint Strike Fighter on final approach to the assault carrier under combat conditions. Another F-35 is landing on the carrier below. Under combat conditions there are no lights on the carrier or the aircraft. These landings are very dangerous and many times the combat pilots are under more stress during these landings than they were during aerial combat.

This is the latest US Military air superiority combat aircraft. It is produced in 3 versions by Lockheed Martin. The standard version with standard landing gear will be used by the US Air Force, US Marines, and US Army. A version with much stronger landing gear and a tailhook will go to the US Navy for standard use on US aircraft carriers. The third version will have vertical take off and vertical landing capabilities. This version will go to the US Marines. In this capacity it will be used for slow take off and vertical landings aboard US Marine assault carriers....

I was born in San Jose, California in 1953. In 1954 we moved to the suburbs of Detroit Michigan. We moved again to the suburbs of Chicago in 1956. Due to my Dad’s employment, we moved to Pennsylvania in 1959, so I have lived Penna. in since then. I grew up on a small farm in Pennsylvania and was inducted into the National Honor Society in high school. I was on the Dean's List a few times and earned my degrees in biology and natural science at Muhlenberg College, a small liberal arts college in Allentown PA in the mid 70s. The art history course I took in my senior year at Muhlenberg College and did extremely well in, was very educational, and I enjoyed it.
