The title Fading Memories has double meaning. The subjects of this work are memory chips on a silicon wafer. As the advancement of technology has allowed smaller and smaller features to be built-up and etched on silicon wafers an interesting side effect occurred. The small features act as prisms to breakup reflected light into the colors of the rainbow. However, the brilliant colors quickly fade to more muted tones. A lot like how the vividness of the present experience fades into past memories. You like it? Well here’s more. Memory technology is one of the fastest progressing technologies. The amount of memory we are able to squeeze on to a give area of silicon doubles every 12-18 months. By the time a memory chip hits the market, its replacement is already being tested in the lab.
