TCU first fielded a football team in 1896. Under legendary coach Dutch Meyer, the Horned Frogs claimed two national championships (1935 & 1938)--led on the field by dynamic Heisman Trophy quarterback Davey O'Brien. Several Frogs have moved on to the NFL, most notably LaDainian Tomlinson. The Horned Frogs are enjoying a resurgence of national prominence under Coach Gary Patterson. Opponents entering Amon G. Carter Stadium have good reason the 'Fear the Frogs.'
