Description
Cannon field rifles on the city square, Ironton, Missouri, with Pilot Knob mountain in the right background. The mountain sinks an old mining shaft from its summit straight down, and the site some 150 years ago of a smelting furnace whose red glow, cast on low-hanging clouds, was a nighttime landmark or beacon for pilots and their river boats plying the Mississippi river 50 miles to the east--thus its name "Pilot Knob". Watercolor, 7" x 11", for sale unframed, $300. Available in print sizes to 24" x 36".
