This is an outstanding piece of work. The aura of Powell River with its resident fishing boats is portrayed beautifully. The vessel “Shirley” is very thought provoking to me personally.

Fishing Boat on Rough Seas (Rockport, Mass, 1943) was painted in the summer of 1943, when Jeri Borst was 19 years old. This was the summer between High School and College. It was painted while studying under the tutelage of Stanley Woodward.

About Jeri Borst
Mary Jean "Jeri" Borst (married name: Haagens) b. 1924- d. 2014, attended Smith College, graduating with a Bachelors of Fine Arts, in 1947. She was an avid painter during childhood and young adulthood, in the 1930s and 1940s. She captured the New England countryside and seashore, in images that people nostalgic for an era of American serenity and security, will enjoy gazing at, and owning. The paintings were made in Massachusetts and Connecticut (the larger collection also contains paintings done in Maine and New Hampshire.) Upon her marriage in 1950, Jeri Borst never painted again. However in the 1990s, she did a few line drawings intended for hand-made Christmas Cards. The drawing of two lighthouses in Connecticut included here is...

Hello, thanks for featuring Fishing Boat on Rough Seas and itt's companion, Seascape -- Lost in a Fog. Both are small studies painted on a canvas board, abbout 9" x 12 " - but they are nice little works, and they make a good complement to the series of larger seascapes also available on the Jeri Borst profile.
