Artist's Description

The heaviest snowfall in our recent history in the Portland,Oregon area occurred in the winters of 1949 through 1951. We had up to 40 inches of accumulation at the airport. This painting came from a small 2" X 2" photo that my brother had and he said he really loved this scene, so I painted it for him. Our Mom and Dad (Pop) didn't live full lives, so this painting is of particular importance to us. Pop died just two years later.

I began painting as a child. My mother would give me pictures to copy, not trace. She would draw wedding cakes, high heel shoes, couples dancing and never a car or truck. She had been a commercial artist during the nineteen thirties and never stopped encouraging me in the arts. After high school I went to California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco . After art college I returned to Portland, Oregon to pursue the art of dentistry. I retired from dentistry a few years ago (I'm still practicing at the Geriatric Dental Clinic in Portland), but I hope to keep painting until I can no longer hold a brush. I paint realism, but mostly I paint "realism with an attitude." I love the ability to enhance what I see with an emphasis on color and...
