Artist's Description

"Gabelhorngletscher (Gabelhorn Glacier), Flowing From Ober Gabelhorn (4063m-13330ft), District of Visp, Canton of Valais, Switzerland" Glaciers are slow, but extremely powerful in building, or rather, "taking apart," landscapes. They contain large amounts of energy, and are always flowing, grinding and eroding. Technically, ice is a rock, just like any other, but with the extremely light density of water, the rock (ice) flows much easier along Earth's surface, and is more sensitive to kinetic energy. It does not take a substantial application of kinetic energy to melt a glacier (>0C), and as we find ourselves entering a period of rapid global warming, our glaciers are also rapidly disappearing. Although the solar system, itself, is not sustainable, it is fair to believe that despite our period of rapid warming, Earth will continue to experience many further cycles of climate fluctuation. The truth is, there are many more ice ages to come!
