Geisha photograph highly manipulated. Geisha (ܿ?), geiko (ܿ) or geigi (ܿ are traditional Japanese female entertainers who act as hostesses and whose skills include performing various Japanese arts such as classical music, dance and games. As described in Wikipedia "The most literal translation of geisha into English would be "artist," "performing artist," or "artisan." Another name for geisha is geiko (ܿ), which is usually used to refer to geisha from western Japan, which includes Kyoto". The art form is fascinating as it combines a richness of color and pagentry with the beauty of conversation and interaction. The only modern maiko that can apprentice before the age of eighteen are in Kyoto.[3] So on average, Tokyo hangyoku (who typically begin at 18) are slightly older than their Kyoto counterparts (who usually start at 15).
