The Golden Gate Bridge - From The Edge. The name was given to this stretch of water before the bridge was built or gold was discovered in California. The first mention of this was in Jon Freemont's memoirs where he wrote in 1846 "To this Gate I gave the name of "Chrysopylae", or "Golden Gate";
I had previous thought that it was given that name due to the boat traffic in and out of San Francisco Bay during the Gold Rush.
The Golden Gate Bridge was completed in 1937. The bridge has become iconic and one of the very recognizable symbols of the State of California.
The Golden Gate Bridge is by estimation, the most photographed bridge in the world.
This image was captured on what was actually a cold day in February from the San Francisco side of the bridge.
