congrats for amazing work

Beautifully done Lianne, I love lighthouses and your technique is perfecto.

A very nice piece of work Lianne. Did you use a Photoshop filter to create the painterly effect?

Lianne Schneider replied:

Primarily no Carl - I usually paint in Corel but I also use Photoshop for special brushes, or light effects, etc. In this case I start in Corel particularly to do the undercoating - base coat in impasto to get the texture lift. But there are about 20 layers here each done differently - one in Photoshop using paint daubs, another in Corel using the impressionist brush, back to photoshop for a Topaz detail adjustment and so forth. Each layer on top of the previous one alters significantly the look and feel - and I try to end up in Corel for a more textured look to the "paint" - I paint by hand though Carl, as if I were painting on canvas. The only difference is that I begin with a very light black and white outline that I've created from the small original sketch using the technique I described in Holy Island. Thank you for your lovely comment Carl.

Artist's Description

Digitally painted impressionist seascape - a derivative work based on a composite of an original image and a photograph in the public domain, courtesy Yaquina Light - Oregon ... I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied; And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying, And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying. I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life, To the gull's way and the whale's way where the wind's like a whetted knife;... About Lianne Schneider

Lianne Schneider

I have a passion for the landscape of Western New York and for the sea that I am unable to express completely in my poetry alone. Now, I have converted both those loves into digital paintings in an impressionist style that express what I see with the heart more than with the eye. I added to that the metaphor of the spiritual journey in my Sea Stories paintings - a visual metaphor for our personal quest for character, courage and truth. Contemporary, yet timeless, my digital paintings are modern realism but with homage to the classic works. In addition to my current art work, I have two self-published volumes of poetry, "Songs of the Heart's Longing" from Blurb publishing and "Ecclesiastes for Sixty: Seasons in Solitude" from Xlibris. Both...
