I love sunflowers. They are so majestic. I liked the angle of capture on this particular one and the nice lighting on the flower. I chose to expose for the flower and not for the sky. Since the sky was washed out I decided to enhance with more saturated color and clouds. Then I added some layers of texture. I wanted the sunflower to be more representative of a photo but wanted to render the foliage and sky more like a painting. I probably will revisit this but I'm happy with it for the time being.

I would like to share a little about what inspires me. I hope it gives you insight into and appreciation of my artwork. I was born an artist. I didn't choose it, it chose me. For me, art is an interface, a way for me to share what's inside my mind's eye. It is a very wholistic experience for me. I hope my art brings you some of the joy and wonder that it does me. My main medium of expression is photography. I also do collage, mixed media and printmaking. Sometimes I combine more than one medium. I started out in photography when I was about 7 years old, way before the digital revolution. When I was in my twenties, I learned how to develop film and make my own black and white prints.
