This is my second rendering of the Grainger bagpipes that belonged to my Father-in-laws uncle Horace MacCombie. I went for a slightly more impressionistic approach while attempting a different perspective and accentuating other areas of the pipes compared to my first version. For some reason, to me this has the feeling of a cat sleeping in a corner. It is painted with Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paint on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. The coarse paper with heavy granulated paint helps to lend texture to the cloth and various metal areas in the piece. The original is 14"x10.25" in size.

I like your flower work alot, but I love your metals. I had not seen this one before and think it is fabulous. Especially the silver rings or whatever they are called, they look like real metal. Sweet.
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you Sandra! I got to borrow this very old set of pipes from my Father-In-Law in order to paint them. I was going to do a few more versions but I was afraid to have them around the house as the kids couldn't keep away from them!
Will Borden
An extremely appealing watercolor- terrific subject! Stumbled.

A Hieland laddie to be sure. Can you play the bagpipes and are you in fact - Scottish?? Such fun these look but I am aware of the intricate side to this painting - as with all your paintings of course. I came again to say a thank you for your kind comments on my Escape. er..um.. weeeelll - you know!

Once again, you've outdone yourself. This obviously took alot of planning & sketching to get everything just right. It's such a wonderful piece relecting alot of skill in the way it's composed & painted.
