I was brought up in the countryside in a small village in the North East of England, although I was born and bred 6 yrs previously in the town of Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders.

The area of my upbringing in my young life was, what one might say, idyllic, in the period of the late 1940's.

No television, no computers, well with none of the facilities that the young now seem to have. All I had was wide open countryside, fields and woods.

I came quite proficient at recognizing and understanding the habits and the life cycles of the local wildlife.

From that early lifestyle my love of wildlife has never waned, so in my art work, it will show wild or domesticated animals many many times.

My name is Tom Mccaskie, retired and was 80 years old as of the 28th of September 2023. I worked for some 23 years, until retirement, for my local Scottish council in Social Care. Just before retiring, I decided to teach myself to draw, a big dream having never had a lesson or tutorial in this subject. On retiral, I moved to live in Portugal. In my apartment in Lisbon for two years I practiced, practiced, and further practiced until I reached an acceptable standard drawing in graphite. I then moved to live in the Algarve.
