A underground circular chamber with names of the dead on the walls at the shrine of Oslavia, a memorial dedicated to the fallen soldiers of the First World War. Near the Slovenian border and within the Italian town of Gorizia, this castle-like ossuary contains the remains of 57,200 Italian soldiers, 36,440 of them unknown. Many were casualties of the 12th Battle of the Isonzo, also known as Caporetto. The shrine also contains the bones of 539 Austro-Hungarian troops.
I guess I've had an off-and-on love affair with photography my whole life. My father was always taking pictures and movies when I was a kid growing up on Long Island, NY in the 1950s-60s, and he gave me my own Kodak Brownie camera when I was around 6 years old. I remember using it to take pictures of family events and a trip to Washington DC, back in 1958. I still have some of the pictures ....... somewhere. Photography moved to the back burner during high school, college, and law school, but I picked it up again after I graduated law school in 1979, moved to Washington DC, and began my legal career with the federal government.
