Killed on a date with a woman in a red dress set up to identify him in a theatre by the madame. The event is noted in my grandma's memoir when she picked up a paper the day he was killed. It was a significant day for her times. She had picked up the paper and stopped to read it on a bench on her way home. He was definately a man of lawlessness and who shook his hand in the face of the police. He was a above the law by his practices and in the eyes of the people. The day he was killed, they were worried people were going to come dip their hankies in his blood as souvenirs. He looks pretty handsome here.

Daniel Hagerman replied:

What a wonderful first-person account by your grandmother! Nice that she put it down in writing .....

deadly expression..

Artist's Description

This portrait was taken of John Dillinger when he was initially captured by the Tucson, Arizona Police Force and extradited by airplane to Crown Pointe, Indiana. After he made his daring escape from the Crown Pointe Jail, Dillinger made a statement (included in quotes at the bottom of the Poster) to a friend approximately six months before his death at the age of 31 by blazing FBI guns outside of Chicago's Biograph Theater in 1934. Of particular interest in this photo is his slight grin, his penetrating gaze, and the supreme confidence of his demeanor (although wholly in police custody).

I prefer to devote much of my free time to creating, researching and perfecting the works you see here. Your purchases have elevated my works into the public eye and I thank you. My wife is a Kyoto, Japan native, so I have photographed that area extensively and some of...
