Artist's Description

President Abraham Lincoln's home as a child was on Knob Creek in Kentucky. He lived here from when he was two an a half until he was almost eight years old. He almost drowned in Knob Creek when he fell in. He friend Austin Gollaher extended a tree branch to him and pulled him to safety. It was also here that Lincoln seen his first black person. They were being transported along the Louisville - Nashville Turnpike to be sold as slaves. The Lincoln family lived on 30 acres of the 238 acre farm. They moved to Spencer County, Indiana in 1816. To visit the park, follow I65 south from Louisville Kentucky to Elizabethtown exit 91. Then follow the Lincoln Parkway KY61 for 13 miles to US 31E. Make a right on US 31E and the park is in 1.3 miles.

About Mark Bowmer

Mark Bowmer

I was born and raised in Belfair Washington. While growing up, I spent most of my time in the woods, hiking, hunting and just wandering around. On those trips, I had a little 35mm point and shoot. Work moved me to Kentucky in 2006. This year my wife upgraded my little 35mm to a Nikon D7000. I would like to focus my photography on getting the view that people seldom see. Everybody knows what it looks like from the road, I want to do the hike and capture the view from 8 miles in.
