Even in unseasonably warm weather, November 23 in SW Ontario is a strange time to find dozens of dragonflies, still covered in a heavy overnight dew, hugging the trees, bushes and dried weeds, waiting patiently to dry! Right place and the right time, I was enthralled by the sight of them as the early morning sun burned through a misty haze and glinted off the tiny beads of dew on their bodies and wings, making them shine like tiny glass-beaded light bulbs all along the path beside the pond. Had they hatched in this warmer weather, or do they migrate? An awesome sight to say the least, so I'm sharing them with you.
While art, whether it be drawing or painting or creating in clay, was my first love all through my younger years, after high school I went into a secretarial course at college. The following year I left school altogether, married and started my family. As a stay-at-home-Mom I found my creative outlet in crafts of all descriptions, and in cake decorating and the 'confectionery arts' which I also taught for more than 25 years from my home. Peggy, This is a lovely capture of one of my favorite creatures. I notice right now that there are literally hundreds of dragonflies in and around Gainesville. They tend to fly about 20 feet off the ground in groups. I saw a bunch yesterday on the way home from work. I love the wings on this one. Looks like ice or frost. Great shot!
