Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

Silicon wafers are gray in color. The depth of the silicon layers built up on it helps determine the colors we see. The angle of the light striking these various layers also determines the color. Different wave lengths of light are reflected and refracted differently. This prism effect can generate some dramatic effects from a seemingly drab piece of material.
This little test circuit was pretty ordinary looking. Then I shined a beam of light straight from the side and it just lit up. The silicon structures in the center must have been a couple microns higher than the surrounding features to catch the light. The aluminum contact pads also standout, but not as much. With the light coming from the side, most of the features were dark and contrasty, just like a digital sunset complete with digital fireflies.
I love Michelangelos comment about his sculpting, I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free. I share that feeling. My subjects are already there. They are just waiting for me to find them with the right illumination and spark to bring them to life. I am truly amazed by the support I have received.
