A vintage lightning rod photographed in northeast Alabama conjures up imagination...how many times can lightning strike the same place?
In a small part of northeastern Venezuela lightning has hit 160 nights a year, for 10 hours at a time, as many as 280 strikes per hour, and 1.2 million strikes per year... name for this amazing phenomenon? Rel'mpago del Catatumbo or "the everlasting storm!"
Photographer drawn to nature, survivor of polio and breast cancer, expressing gifts in a spiritual and colorful sense providing healing focus for self as well as viewer. Background studies from a quaint art studio in small town Tennessee (oils and acrylics), Accounting at Columbia State Community College, Modeling - print and commercial work in the early 80's, and Real-estate investing of older craftsman style homes in the 90's. Photography is the perfect marriage of nature's endless scenes, aging structures, the wonder of water, and the joy of creating! Thank you so much to buyer from Egg Harbor Township, NJ for your kind support! Hope you enjoy this T-shirt! Don't see many of the old lightening rods left on homes.
Kathryn Meyer
My sister on a visit to me in rural NC asked what was the purpose of these structures. I said they were lightning rods, but whether to avert the lightning or attract it and guide it harmlessly away, I wasn't sure. Thanks for the image!
Anita Faye replied:
Kathryn, I've wondered myself this very thing. They are so ornamental and beautiful... just not sure the do the work intended ;)
