Mary Deal replied:

Thank you for viewing my art, Kay, and for your vf too.

Great shot!

Mary Deal replied:

Thank you so much, Sharon.

Beautiful!

Mary Deal replied:

Thank you, Andrea. It's still standing.

Very beautiful - and so clean!

Mary Deal replied:

Thank you, William. About the only time this town looks this clean is at dawn.

Troy, I went there at dawn and waited. Several people walked around and I prayed they would go indoors. They did. It was quite a bit later when I took this shot and several others. Just when I finished shooting, a couple dozen motorcycles roared in. Maybe you were on one of them?

You captured the atmosphere perfectly! How did you manage to find it without any cars on the street?

Thank you, Karin. There is much more to this town behind this Main Street. Most of the original buildings are so old it's a wonder they still stand.

Thank you so much for your comment on My Plumeria.. I do appreciate .. I visited your site and loved all your work . I particularly like this piece .. I love this particular subject great shot .. Thank you for sharing .. Karin

Artist's Description

This is Locke's Main Street, old and picturesque, with incredible history. This town was where my family shopped for groceries when I was school age. Many of my friends also lived there. The Chinatown of Locke, California was built by Chinese immigrants in 1912 and, for a while, was the largest Chinatown outside of China. When the nearby town of Walnut Grove burned to the ground due to an accidental fire, immigrants settled in Locke. Locke was known for its saloons, houses of ill-repute, gambling, opium and other activities of reputation. Today, it is a thriving artists' area which includes the famous Al the Wops restaurant. FEATURED: Old Buildings and Ruins - 10-06-15 The artist, Mary Deal, is also an award-winning author of mystery/thrillers, a short story collection and writers' reference books.
