Wow, this is just one of those striking paintings that leave me nearly speechless. It seems like there are layers and layers and many hours that have gone into this to get such a beautiful variety of colors and depth. As I'm pretty sure someone here already said, you are fearless, and the work speaks for itself!

I love your expressionistic work, Charles. Something about the masterful strokes that pull me right into the emotion. Very powerful work.

Love the colors and the bold brush strokes!

Charles, this is one of the most inspirational works I have seen lately. You truly are a master at your art!

this is great man!!..love the colors!

Each time I look at this painting of your Charles, it takes on more power, more of a grip on me. It will likely become a favorite because the face seems to be emerging from the painting this time I saw it....

This is really quite the piece Charles! I love the colors, the mood and the intensity!

wow, i looked at this for a second not realizing hat it was and all of a sudden the face popped out at me. that's awesome, nice work.

I feel this work of art, simple yet complex, intense but there is a resolution to the pain in this piece, a vibrant and spiritually pleasing future and past.

Enjoy your work. Each color has a story, and the face a reflection of many adventures!

Fantastic and impressive work!!!!

I love this Charles!

Hey Charles, I love this peace! You have really bold strokes, the color is so vibrant ! Great work.

Fauve at it's finest! Intense depth and breadth... exceptional self portrait.

When you posted this, I was as awed as the others, of course. On one hand (holding the palette?) I could not imagine your going further with the portrait (which you kind of dismissed as a warm up); but on the other (hold the brush, it seems) I know that YOU could and would! So it was no surprise to me when "Gonzo" (should be called "Intense lucidity," or something like. Or is this how the ancient prophets were "mad?" But after a couple failed attempts, I quit trying to see them together for comparison/contrast and ultimatey dual unity. Until now, and reviewing the whole sequence leading up to them. Thank you, Charles - not just for giving this/all this/these to the universe and for trying to teach and exemplify to all of us.

I hardly know what to say ... so many top artists of this site saying so many fine things about my first self portrait in many years...except a sincere thank you.

Charles love the freedom in the brushwork, and Your use of color

NICE COLORS

love the soft treatment here, Charles! very nice self-portrait, great tonal shifts and i LOVE the brushstrokes!

just me painting myself without using a mirror. Getting loosened up and playing with the shapes & color. Striving for a more energetic painted image as my realism has been too quiet to suit me lately.

So please take a few moments to enjoy my Art" My bio differs greatly from what I see most artists use in that I have not kept a list of the places I've been, the work I've sold over the years, or where I've sold it from. I spent most of my youth and that fuzzy time before grey hair roaming North and South America. I have lived mostly off commissions. I have left copious amounts behind when it was time to check out new places, never worrying about it as I could always make more and it surely would be better next time anyway. Somewhere in my 50's a rather...
